Oh dear dear dear.
It’s hard to ask for help! And it’s especially hard to ask for money. But it’s time to start fundraising.
I started with small steps, way back in June - we asked close friends, who have been with us the whole way, to brainstorm with me. What kinds of fundraising events do people *enjoy* attending? How are events run? Do we need an arms-length board? Can we get charitable status in Alberta? (FYI - No.) How about more than one event? How do we involve families with children? …And so on.
Then I bounced our various ideas off of friends and family and basically everyone who came through the house. It was decided that the first fundraiser we’d take on would be an everyone-welcome dinner at our old ‘local’ Vietnamese restaurant in Inglewood. We talked to the owner, Tina, and her son Jimmy. They’ve known us since before Sloane was born and were glad to hear we wanted to hold the event on a Monday - usually a slow night for them. It’s also November 8th, and 8 is a lucky money-number on the Chinese calendar.
